Hey there! At Pedersen Prime & Paint, we've got a solid process in place to make sure our clients are always happy with the results. Here's how we do it: From start to finish:

1. Preparation

  • Clear the Room:

-Remove furniture, curtains, and any décor.

-Cover large furniture pieces that cannot be removed with drop cloths.

  • Protect Surfaces:

-Use painter's tape to cover edges of baseboards, window frames, door frames, and light switches.

-Lay down drop cloths or plastic sheets to protect the floor.

  • Repair and Clean Surfaces:

-Inspect the walls for cracks, holes, or damage and repair using spackle or joint compound.

-Sand repaired areas to ensure they are smooth.

-Clean the walls with a damp cloth or mild detergent to remove dust, grease, or dirt.

  • Remove Hardware:

-Remove outlet covers, switch plates, and any hardware from the walls and doors.

  • Prime the Walls:

-apply primer, especially if changing from dark to light colors, or if the walls are new and unpainted.

-Allow the primer to dry completely.

2. Painting

  • Cutting In:

- Use a brush to carefully paint around the edges of the walls, such as near the

ceiling, baseboards, windows, and door.

  • Rolling Paint on Walls:

-Load the roller evenly with paint and apply in long, smooth strokes, starting at the top of the wall and working down.

-Use a "W" or "M" pattern to distribute the paint evenly and then fill in gaps.

  • Second Coat (If Necessary):

-After the first coat dries, apply a second coat to ensure an even and durable finish.

  • Painting Trim and Doors:

-Once the walls are dry, use a brush to paint the trim, baseboards, and doors.

3. Cleanup

  • Remove Painter's Tape:

-Carefully remove the painter’s tape while the paint is still slightly wet to avoid peeling.

  • Clean Brushes and Rollers:

-Clean paint tools with water (for latex paint) or paint thinner (for oil-based paint).

  • Reinstall Hardware:

-Once the paint is dry, replace outlet covers, switch plates, and any removed hardware.

  • Touch-ups:

-Inspect the room for any missed spots or imperfections and touch them up with a brush.

  • Final Cleanup:

-Dispose of any trash, clean up drop cloths, and return furniture and items to their original places
